The Beautiful Garden of Flowers

I remembered a question when I was still in college and I thought I gave myself a satisfying answer, only to find out later in my life that I wasn't really sure of my answer.

Imagine yourself in a very beautiful garden that has a pathway filled with different flowers left and right. You were given the chance to pick-up a flower of any type that you liked. However there are conditions imposed on you; Once you have passed by a flower you cannot go back and pick it up. Once you have picked up a flower, you cannot return the flower and you cannot pick any other flower.

My answer was quick and simple, I'll get the first beautiful flower that I could see and ignore the rest.

However, as I try to live my married life, I find myself having hard time to put my answer into practice. I know I shouldn't anymore think of picking up other beautiful fowers in my path because I already picked one. But I frequently find myself wanting to put down the flower that I picked and exchange it for the next flower I see that is better than the first that I picked.
